SASVRC has strong links with all the Universities in the Brisbane area, especially with the University of Queensland, and is one of the few research Centres in Australia that is devoted to the study of viruses. The Centre has excellent accommodation on the Royal Children's Hospital/Royal Brisbane Hospital campus at Herston, and is administered by the Royal Children's Hospital. The Centre welcomes applications and enquiries from postgraduate students to participate in molecular biology research within the following areas:-
Virus receptors, virus replication, viral RNA transcription, pathogenesis of viral diseases, virus immunology, new viral vaccines, design of novel antiviral agents, gene therapy, and development of novel diagnostic assays. The projects involve a range of viruses of medical importance. The Centre offers the most comprehensive range of virus research available in Australia.
A number of competitive awards offered by the University of Queensland, National Health & Medical Research Council, Australian Postgraduate Research Awards and the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation may be held in SASVRC.
From time to time, it may be possible to fund scholarships from other sources. The University Scholarships Office, newspapers, and noticeboards provide details of other scholarships.
Further details of specific projects and support facilities are available from laboratory supervisors listed in the Centre's Annual Report or elsewhere on this webpage. General enquiries should be made to:
